March 2017: Sunflowers

Although there was so much to do in the garden, I knew that for 2017 I really wanted to have some home grown flowering plants in time for summer, so in March I planted some helianthus annuus seeds (nothing fancy just some sunflowers!) I’ve decided I’m going to do this every year as it was really fun to grow these – they finally bloomed in late June!

My tallest one this year was 8ft 3 – hopefully I’ll be able to beat this next summer, annoyingly I didn’t down the variety so won’t be able to compare… It was also a shame to realise that they only flower for a relatively short period of time – or perhaps that’s because I didn’t feed them? Anyhow, it was fun to watch them grow so I’ll definitely have another go in 2018!
